A neck mass biopsy is performed to determine the cause of a lump in the neck. There are many potential reasons for a mass in the neck, and only a biopsy of the mass material can effectively determine the cause.
The biopsy is performed by using a tiny needle that is inserted directly into the mass. A small amount of material or fluid is removed from the mass so that it can be examined and used to form a diagnosis.
A neck mass biopsy is a needle-based procedure performed in our freestanding facility. The procedure will take about an hour, and no overnight stay is required.
