Fibroids of any size may be treated with UFE. UFE generally causes fibroids to shrink to about half of their size. Generally, this is sufficient to relieve symptoms, but in some women with particularly large fibroids, additional treatment may be necessary. UFE was initially discovered because it was being used to shrink fibroids prior to surgery to reduce complications and improve the outcome. So, even in extreme cases, UFE is still a good first step to take. It may relieve symptoms on its own, but if not, it will still be beneficial to additional treatments.
