Probably not. Hysterectomy has been the traditional treatment for fibroids, but it is no longer the only choice. Most women find relief through less drastic measures.
Be sure that you are working with a doctor who will present and explain all of your options to you. Most women can find relief through non-surgical treatments such as medication of symptoms or uterine fibroid embolization (UFE). There are also other surgical options that allow you to retain your uterus, such as endometrial ablation (removal of the endometrium) or myomectomy (removal of the fibroids).
Remember that if all else fails, you will still have hysterectomy as an option. It is estimated that only 1% of women with fibroids will need a hysterectomy to relieve their symptoms entirely.
